PRODUCT INFORMATION
General Description
Ajoite must be one of the rarest and most desirable mineral species coming out of South Africa next to Sugilite. The Ajoite in matrix is often associated to thin veins of Malachite, Epidote, Piedmontite & Bornite. The rough material has been selected from the 5th shaft mine dumps from the Messina Copper Mines and has only recently been put on the market. The material has been successfully polished with very exciting results, but only a small amount of material is being left rough and sold in this manner. Very exciting to see any form of Ajoite back on the market. Only a limited supply available.
A few comments from Nick May - When they built the new highway last year, they had to widen the old roads and when they cut through the rock sides by Messina Copper Mines, they hit this one area with the Ajoite in it. The material was 95% was matrix Ajoite, with Malachite, some red Piemontite and green Epidote in them, and a few small Ajoites in quartz crystals here and there..mostly very tiny (but still damn expensive!) These are genuine and not just some random blue in quartz..anybody who doubts this is welcome to email nick@toprocks.com, or put an XRF tester on them and they will see that the Sio2 Al Cu content is Ajoite. We bought them because everybody would love to have an Ajoite but don't necessarily have big money to buy one (IF they could even get one, unlikely), but these are relatively cheap and we had 300kg of them from that road cutting!
This unique line of pendants are all locally manufactured. The copper wire wraps are all uniquely made in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. A very beautiful range of pendants which are all unique and practically one of a kind copper jewellery pieces.
